ABOUT YVETTE McCLENDON
Who Am I ?
Yvette McClendon is a prolific gospel-recording artist and a powerful voice to the nations. Her musical journey began at just three years old in Pasadena, California, when she debuted with the hymn “More Love to Thee, O Christ.” That moment marked the beginning of a lifelong passion for worship and music. More than five decades later, Yvette continues to walk boldly in the ministry God entrusted to her — the ministry of reconciliation, rooted in Luke 22:32: “When you have been converted, strengthen your brother.
An anointed singer, author, songwriter, and minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Yvette carries a message that flows from a place of authenticity and surrender. Her first book, Transparent: From the Heart of a Worshipper, offers an intimate look into how genuine worship and a true relationship with God bring healing, freedom, and transformation.
If you really want to understand me, you’ve got to start with this: I grew up as the only girl in a house full of five brothers. Yes… five. So if I seem strong, resilient, unbothered, and slightly sarcastic — now you know why. God didn’t just give me a family; He gave me training.
I’m also the baby of the family and the last grandchild on both sides, which basically means I was spoiled, protected, prayed over, and probably got away with more than I should have. (Don’t ask my brothers — they’re still recovering.)
And then there’s my mother — the real MVP. The woman who balanced raising five boys and one girl without losing her mind or her anointing. She taught me grace, strength, and how to carry myself with confidence even when life gets loud. If my brothers taught me toughness, my mother taught me tenderness. She’s the quiet force behind so much of who I am.
My father was a pastor, so church wasn’t just a place we went — it was the environment that raised me. I didn’t “grow up in church”… I grew up IN the church. Choir rehearsals, revivals, Bible study, Sunday service, second service, “we’re just stopping by,” and “help me carry these chairs” — that was my childhood. Worship became my first language long before I ever knew it would become my calling.
Family is a huge part of who I am. I’m a mother, a daughter, a sister, and a woman who loves hard, laughs loud, and values connection. If you ever see me with my family, just know:
There will be jokes
Someone will be roasting someone
And I will be minding my business… until I’m not
The people closest to me shaped my heart, my humor, my strength, and my understanding of God’s love. They’re my grounding place and my greatest joy — which is why you’ll see their faces all over this page.
Today, I carry all of that — the chaos, the love, the faith, the transparency, the humor — into my worship. My sound is honest because my story is real. My worship is intentional because my journey has been anything but random. And my heart is to create spaces where people can encounter God in a way that feels personal, authentic, and deeply transformative.
Whether I’m leading worship, writing, recording, or just sharing my story, my desire is simple: to help people experience God in a way that reaches beyond the stage and into the heart.
This is me — a worshipper, a mother, a sister, a daughter, a storyteller, a survivor of five brothers, a product of a praying mama, and a vessel God continues to shape.
And I’m grateful you’re here.
